October 20th, 2009 - Hoover Dam Marathon featured in Henderson View here is link : http://www.viewnews.com/2009/VIEW-Oct-20-Tue-2009/Henderson/31827867.html

August 26, 2009 -  Calico Racing has put together what will become a “have to do” marathon on October 31th, 2009. Both a full and half marathon run on the River Mountains Loop Trail connecting to the Historic Railroad Trail to Hoover Dam visitor center parking garage top floor. This has been months in the making and permitting; a first of its kind.  Yes, the event is on Halloween too.

The marathon course offers some world class views of Lake Mead and the surrounding Mojave Desert along the River Mountains Loop Trail and Historic Railroad Trail. Along the Historic Railroad Trail you will pass through five (5) large railroad tunnels used during the building of then Boulder Dam project. You will have elevated views of the deep blue waters of Lake Mead up until you enter tunnel #5 after which the new Hoover Dam By-pass Bridge project  comes into view followed shortly by the majestic Hoover Dam itself.  This is the Inaugural Hoover Dam Marathon, but it won’t be the last.

The “Three Sisters” a Biker’s Challenge…

December 4, 2008

Who or what are the Three Sisters?  They are three mountain ridges all in a row at the north end of the loop between mile marker #6.5 and #8.  These three were given their names by bike riders in the Annual Silverman Triathlon. There average grade is around 15% up & down. For the causal rider they offer good views of east Henderson and the Las Vegas valley.  We have looked at moving this segment into longer switch backs to reduce the grade, but the riders see it as a real challenge and goal to be able to make it over the top with out stopping.  This last year we had several riders come in to Aid Station #10 boasting that they had made the “Three Sisters.”  Some of the local riders also refer to them as the “Three Bitches”, but we prefer sisters.

SILVERMAN TRIATHLON AID STATION #10 Successful

November 18, 2008

Silverman Aid Station #10 November 9th, 2008 – We staffed the station from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Our theme was patriotic with red, white and blue in colors. We played patriotic music and had bells, horns, whistles for noise makers. We had a food station for our volunteers with extra snacks, hot dogs, and chili. We were very popular with the HPD ATV & motorcycle patrols through out the day.  Even though the weather was horrible, everyone had a good time and enjoyed the athletes through out the day.

Silverman Aid Station #10

Silverman Aid Station #10

  • Saw our first rider around 11:00 a.m. and our last rider about 4:30 p.m.
  • Our peak period was steady from 12:30 p.m. to around 3:00 p.m.
  • Our later riders had more needs upon arrival at the aid station ( rest room, food, salt, first aid etc).
  • Had one rider late in day cash in and call for pick up…had chills and was cold, Henderson para-medics cared for his needs as they were on station.
  • Had 25-volunteers sign up for aid station; and had 20 volunteers show up; plus a few drop-ins from area who didn’t sign in.
  • Overall the event gets better each year. The number of athletes who told us thanks and that we were appreciated certainly made our day.

You can count on the River Mountains Trail Partnership for next years event and aid station support.

Silverman Aid Station #10 – RMLT sponsors

    October 27, 2008

Less than two weeks Silverman Triathlon event on Nov. 9th.  We are busy planning and recruiting volunteers to man the aid station. This will be the fourth year the RMLT has sponored this aid station. Aid Station #10 is the last aid station on the bike course, we are located at 101-miles out of the total 112 mile race.  We play a critical role is serving the racers, refreshing them, and seeing to their continued safety. Our aid station site is at the corner of Old Vegas Trail and Paradise Hills Parkway, also known as Foothills Drive.

We encourage anyone interested in supporting the racers to stop by and cheer them on.  In this race a finish is a victory to most of the racers.

Aid station #10 will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on race day.
