New trailhead Lake Mead Pkwy NPS 2008

Oct. 27th 2008 – Hey all RMLT trail users.  We have a brand new trail head open and being used without a name? How did that happen? We are looking for a few good names which would locate and identify the trailhead, or not. The trail head is located off Lake Mead Parkway or maybe its Lake Shore Drive within Lake Mead Recreation Area – NPS. It’s paved, has a restroom, has a kiosk, and equestrian parking, etc. it just doesn’t have a name yet.  We’ve had several ideas within the advisory council, but none have stuck just yet. Here are several being kicked around:

  • Entry Station Trail head :(
  • Mountain View Trail head – you can see lots of mountains from this site. :)
  • Lake Mead Trail Head – but very trail in Lake Mead has a Lake Mead trailhead. :(
  • Lakeview Trail head – can’t see the lake from here anymore.
  • others….

Give us your suggestions……..

Silverman Aid Station #10 – RMLT sponsors

October 27, 2008

Less than two weeks Silverman Triathlon event on Nov. 9th.  We are busy planning and recruiting volunteers to man the aid station. This will be the fourth year the RMLT has sponored this aid station. Aid Station #10 is the last aid station on the bike course, we are located at 101-miles out of the total 112 mile race.  We play a critical role is serving the racers, refreshing them, and seeing to their continued safety. Our aid station site is at the corner of Old Vegas Trail and Paradise Hills Parkway, also known as Foothills Drive.

We encourage anyone interested in supporting the racers to stop by and cheer them on.  In this race a finish is a victory to most of the racers.

Aid station #10 will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on race day.

Trail Watch – Meeting the users

October 9, 2008

On a recent trail watch outing with my wife we met some 20+ users along a mile and half section of the River Mountains Loop Trail. We were picking up trash as we walked and were thoroughly impressed with the amount of “thanks” and “thank yous” we received. Most of them came from the bike riders who far out numbered other users. We stopped and talked to several people who make use of the trail a daily routine.  We met two or three joggers and several walkers. Met one gentleman walking his dog (on a leash) and they had been doing this walk for years.

We collected several trash bags of litter along the trail, but most of it comes from boulder highway and not trail users. Several bikers stopped to ask when would the trail be complete to Boulder City, and we were happy to say late spring 2009. This completed segment is one of the most anticipated of the entire trail system.

I encourage anyone who uses the trails on a regular basis and enjoys talking to people and doing light trail maintenance to please consider becoming a Henderson Trail Watch volunteer.  Call 702-267-4050 and learn more….:)
